Operation Warm
Thursday, December 14, 2017

Over 50 students at Ocean City Elementary School received a brand new winter coat from Ocean City Career Firefighter / Paramedics – IAFF Local 4269.  Not to be confused with a coat collection drive, Ocean City Firefighter’s program is centered around brand new coats and works with school administrators to determine what children can use a winter coat.

“As firefighters, when we are not running 911 emergencies, we are working to give back to the community we serve and protect, said IAFF 4269 President Ryan Whittington.  He continued, “As firefighters we carry around memories that we wish we could erase, yet we understand that our occupation and experience puts us in a unique position to raise awareness and support for our community members in need.”

Working with school administrators, students from pre-kindergarten to fourth grade where sized by firefighters in the school cafeteria and then firefighters helped write the child’s name on a special tag, inside the coat.

About Operation Warm: Since 998, Operation Warm has inspired hope and empowered communities by manufacturing and distributing high-quality, new winter coats to over 2 million children in need throughout the United States.  The nonprofit works with organizations like the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) at a community-level, assisting local advocates to help children receive coats.

Ocean City Firefighters have participated in Operation Warm for over 4 years, delivering nearly 200 coats.
