The Ocean City Fire Department will be wearing a new t-shirt design in support of leukemia awareness. The department is using August as its awareness month and wearing dark blue t-shirts with a specially designed orange ribbon that represents Leukemia. The shirt features an Ocean City Fire Department logo on the left chest in orange and white with an orange ribbon in the center. The back of the shirt reads “Ocean City Fire Department Leukemia Awareness” in bold orange and white letters, with an orange ribbon in the middle of the word ‘FIRE’. Fire Chief Richie Bowers has authorized the wearing of these shirts to not only show the community that we are at their side during an emergency, but also through difficult personal times such as dealing with cancer.
“Cancer is a devastating topic to discuss,” stated Ocean City Fire Chief Richie Bowers. He continued, “We have folks in our community, and even within our department, that have experienced the negative effects of cancer. We want our community, our fellow city employees, and their family members to know that we support them through these difficult times.”
Ocean City Fire Department has historically used the month of August as their awareness month. However, since September is Leukemia Awareness month, Chief Bowers has authorized the t-shirts to be worn as the primary uniform shirt until Monday, September 30, 2019. The public will be able to make a one-time purchase of these shirts in the near future.
